The micro trencher cuts a shallow, narrow slot for fiber routes in streets and sidewalks with minimal damage to the surface. Reinstatement is faster and cheaper than with a conventional trencher.

Key features

  • Shallow cut for microduct and micro cable.
  • Compact chassis for sidewalks and narrow streets.
  • Low ground disturbance and reduced spoil.
  • Quick blade change for different surfaces.

A new trenching method

New-generation microtrenching blades

With milling bits, every asphalt and subgrade component is separated and removed, and the trench is 10 to 12 cm wide. With cutting blades, the material is sheared and the trench is 1.5 to 3.4 cm wide. The result: a smooth, even trench bed, one-eighth of the debris, an average speed of 4 instead of 2 metres per minute, and up to 90% less downward pressure from vehicle wheels on the buried route.

  • Narrow trench1.5 to 3.4 cm instead of 10 to 12 cm
  • Less debrisA quarter of the excavation waste and one-eighth of the total debris
  • Smooth bedShearing leaves a clean bed without sharp edges, so little bedding sand is needed
  • Reuse screened soilScreened soil and crushed rock go straight back into the trench
  • FasterAn average of 4 m/min against 2 m/min
  • Rocky groundConcrete and rock beds can be cut, more slowly and with more wear
  • Traffic keeps moving75% fewer crews and one-eighth of the debris vehicles
  • Less pressure on the ductUp to 90% less downward pressure on the subgrade
